Matt Cohen will make his debut as Detective Burrow on The Young and the Restless on October 16, six years after his last soap appearance as General Hospital‘s Griffin Munro.

Cohen says he’s been looking for an opportunity like this for a while. “I read the audition, and I had been wanting to play a very similar role to this for a long time,” Cohen explains. “It’s a really fun detective. He’s good, he’s bad, he’s everything in between. He’s got a lot to deliver for the audience. Sharon (Newman, Sharon Case) and Nick (Newman, Joshua Morrow) have a big situation going on and he’s involved. He’s investigating and he’s going to get to the bottom of it in one way, shape, or form, and the result is going to be astounding.”

In addition to the excitement of joining Y&R, the new gig allows Cohen to reconnect with a host of familiar faces. “I started my career in Hollywood with an old friend producing a movie, and that old friend happened to be Michael Graziadei (Daniel Romalotti), who I love thoroughly,” he shares. “When this project came up, I said, ‘Man, I know Graz is back on the show, and Michelle Stafford‘s (Phyllis Summers) my dear friend from General Hospital (where she played Nina Reeves), and Hayley Erin (Claire Newman; ex-Kiki Jerome, GH) is there, too.’ I introduced her to her husband Adam Fergus, who is one of my best friends in the world, and they have a beautiful family together. My dear friend Roger (Howarth, ex-Franco, GH) is also here, as is Tamara Braun (Sienna Bacall). So, we are really having fun. It’s a bunch of old friends getting to play around on the stage again, and it’s really been rewarding.” (more…)

A decade ago, actor/director Matt Cohen and his filmmaking partner Sean Flanagan had an idea to make an animated comedy series about a group of over-the-hill legendary characters hanging out in a Cheers-like bar called Public Domain. “The regulars at this Hollywood watering hole were all once famous characters that have fallen into the public domain,” says Cohen, who played young John Winchester on Supernatural and directed the final-season episode “Give Me Shelter.”

“They drink together and wait for the opportunity to be rediscovered, and rebooted by Tinseltown,” Cohen explains. “We’ve never asked the question, when life gets hard, where do they go and how do they deal with it? It’s essentially the look at every actor in Hollywood told by a favorite animated character. We’ll see what they’re doing in their 40s-60s, post their Hollywood careers.”

According to Cohen, there are about “200 public domain characters that audiences will recognize. It’s going to feel a lot like an animated Cheers, but with characters you know and love from your favorite shows and the shows that you share with your children.” (more…)

Back on July 24, 2019, Soaps.com reported that General Hospital alum Matt Cohen, who played Griffin Munro from 2016 to 2019, would be directing an episode of the CW’s Supernatural during its fifteenth and final season. We now have details as Cohen is set to assume the role of director for the popular fantasy series. Though information on the episode plot has not been released yet, the show’s producer Jim Michaels posted on Instagram that the episode is entitled Gimme Shelter and will be the fifteenth one of the fifteenth season. Cohen also appeared on the show as a young John Winchester and Michael during three episodes from 2008 through 2015.

Supernatural is an American dark fantasy series created by Eric Kripke and produced by Warner Bros. After its first broadcast in September 2005, it quickly became part of The CW’s lineup. The series follows two brothers, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), as they chase down a panada’s box of supernatural beings, including demons, ghosts and monsters. The fifteenth and final season premiered on The CW on October 10, 2019 and features showrunners Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer. The last season will consist of 20 episodes and airs Thursdays at 8:00 PM; however, in March, the dark fantasy series moves to Mondays at 8:00 PM. The finale episode is scheduled to air on May 18, 2020.

It’s been an exciting few months for Cohen, who joined Entertainment Tonight late last year as a correspondent. Cohen was also seen in the Hallmark Channel Christmas film Holiday Date. In a recent Instagram post, Cohen thanked his Supernatural family, and featured the episode number hashtag #1515, expressing his excitement in a fun mini video clip.

In case you were worried about the number of sexy General Hospital doctors taking a fall in numbers recently, get ready because Matt Cohen is bringing Dr. Griffin Munro back to Port Charles shortly.

According to the December 16 issue of Soap Opera Digest, Cohen is checking back into General Hospital to offer his expertise on a case — probably for his former med school pal, Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes), who was recently hospitalized with a brain injury after a terrible car accident. Griffin just so happens to be a neurosurgeon.

Look for Griffin to cross paths with some familiar faces, including former flame Ava (Maura West). She’s going through a horrible time ever since Kiki’s (Hayley Erin) murder last year, which also upset Griffin quite a bit since he was in love with Kiki at the time. (more…)

General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that a special guest star has a surprising ABC soap connection. GH fans recently met Carol Lockhart (Mandy Musgrave), the waitress Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) has been seeking help from in Beechers Corners. Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) also shared scenes with Carol, who wants Shiloh Archer (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) to finally be stopped.

If Musgrave looked familiar, there are some good reasons why. For starters, Musgrave happens to be married to a talented General Hospital alum. Matt Cohen (ex-Griffin Munro) left the show earlier this year, but his wife scored the part of Carol and did an excellent job. Musgrave had only wonderful things to say about GH and her costars for these episodes.

“Had the pleasure of stepping on 2 #GeneralHospital for a moment,” Musgrave tweeted after filming. “Blown away by their work ethic & charisma! Only takes 10 minutes 2 understand why that well oiled machine works so well. Chad Duell & Steve Burton we’re angels! Princes among men. thank you GH!” (more…)

After a three-year stint as an angsty priest-turned-neurosurgeon on General Hospital, Matt Cohen, who plays Dr. Griffin Munro, is checking out of the ABC soap. His last air date is Friday, March 22.

The actor has had many stories during his Port Charles tenure and although his TV dad Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan) was killed off a while back, the two actors managed to share screen-time when Duke appeared as an apparition in 2017.

Cohen says his exit is amicable and the door is being left open for his return. He’s tackling directing next, helming the film Mama Bear, which is already getting positive response as a short at festivals. It stars Cohen’s wife, Mandy Musgrave (whom veteran Days of Our Lives fans may recall as the original Chelsea). (more…)

Griffin Munro (Matt Cohen) is stuck between a rock and a hard place these days on ABC’s daytime drama, General Hospital.

Fans of the long-running soap know that former priest Griffin is in his first real romantic relationship with Ava (Maura West), and while they’ve hit their share of bumps in the road, they’re working hard to make their union work. Griffin also has an allegiance to mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) that could end up being a big problem given the fact that Sonny’s Alzheimers-ridden father Mike (Max Gail) recently kidnapped Ava and Sonny’s daughter, Avery (Ava and Grace Scarola).

As we saw on Friday’s episode, Avery was recovered unharmed. And while Sonny contends Mike didn’t actually kidnap the child, Ava isn’t having it and is also not going to let their daughter go to a home where Mike is also living. Will Griffin be able to reason with both sides to keep everyone happy? Or could it cost him one relationship — or maybe both? (more…)
