With only a handful of episodes left before The CW’s long-running demon-hunting drama “Supernatural” signs off for good, every line of dialogue, every frame of footage and every decision — from guest star casting to guest director hiring — counts. Matt Cohen, who got his start on the show playing young John Winchester in 2008, admits he was certainly feeling the weight of that responsibility when he stepped on set to direct “Gimme Shelter,” the 15th episode of the final season.

“There was all the pressure, but I just wanted to do the homework and I tried to do the homework as much as possible,” Cohen tells Variety. “I wanted to give the audience enough to satisfy them a little bit, but also enough to dissatisfy them so they come back next week. That’s what I was aiming for.”

“Gimme Shelter,” which was penned by staff writer Davy Perez, was a dialogue-heavy episode that featured two seemingly distinct stories, for which Cohen focused on the common emotional tonality. Half of the episode featured Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) reconnecting with God’s sister Amara (Emily Swallow), at first because they need her to get to God, who is busy destroying the other universes. But their time with her delivers the all-important revelations that she is not actually the first born, but God’s twin (“creation and destruction, light and dark, balance”), as well as why she really brought the Winchesters’ mother Mary (Samantha Smith) back from the dead a few years earlier. The other half of the episode focused on Castiel (Misha Collins) and Jack (Alex Calvert) on the case of deaths and disappearances of people within a religious group. Read the rest of this entry »

Back on July 24, 2019, Soaps.com reported that General Hospital alum Matt Cohen, who played Griffin Munro from 2016 to 2019, would be directing an episode of the CW’s Supernatural during its fifteenth and final season. We now have details as Cohen is set to assume the role of director for the popular fantasy series. Though information on the episode plot has not been released yet, the show’s producer Jim Michaels posted on Instagram that the episode is entitled Gimme Shelter and will be the fifteenth one of the fifteenth season. Cohen also appeared on the show as a young John Winchester and Michael during three episodes from 2008 through 2015.

Supernatural is an American dark fantasy series created by Eric Kripke and produced by Warner Bros. After its first broadcast in September 2005, it quickly became part of The CW’s lineup. The series follows two brothers, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), as they chase down a panada’s box of supernatural beings, including demons, ghosts and monsters. The fifteenth and final season premiered on The CW on October 10, 2019 and features showrunners Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer. The last season will consist of 20 episodes and airs Thursdays at 8:00 PM; however, in March, the dark fantasy series moves to Mondays at 8:00 PM. The finale episode is scheduled to air on May 18, 2020.

It’s been an exciting few months for Cohen, who joined Entertainment Tonight late last year as a correspondent. Cohen was also seen in the Hallmark Channel Christmas film Holiday Date. In a recent Instagram post, Cohen thanked his Supernatural family, and featured the episode number hashtag #1515, expressing his excitement in a fun mini video clip.

In case you were worried about the number of sexy General Hospital doctors taking a fall in numbers recently, get ready because Matt Cohen is bringing Dr. Griffin Munro back to Port Charles shortly.

According to the December 16 issue of Soap Opera Digest, Cohen is checking back into General Hospital to offer his expertise on a case — probably for his former med school pal, Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes), who was recently hospitalized with a brain injury after a terrible car accident. Griffin just so happens to be a neurosurgeon.

Look for Griffin to cross paths with some familiar faces, including former flame Ava (Maura West). She’s going through a horrible time ever since Kiki’s (Hayley Erin) murder last year, which also upset Griffin quite a bit since he was in love with Kiki at the time. Read the rest of this entry »

General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that a special guest star has a surprising ABC soap connection. GH fans recently met Carol Lockhart (Mandy Musgrave), the waitress Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) has been seeking help from in Beechers Corners. Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) also shared scenes with Carol, who wants Shiloh Archer (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) to finally be stopped.

If Musgrave looked familiar, there are some good reasons why. For starters, Musgrave happens to be married to a talented General Hospital alum. Matt Cohen (ex-Griffin Munro) left the show earlier this year, but his wife scored the part of Carol and did an excellent job. Musgrave had only wonderful things to say about GH and her costars for these episodes.

“Had the pleasure of stepping on 2 #GeneralHospital for a moment,” Musgrave tweeted after filming. “Blown away by their work ethic & charisma! Only takes 10 minutes 2 understand why that well oiled machine works so well. Chad Duell & Steve Burton we’re angels! Princes among men. thank you GH!” Read the rest of this entry »
