Supernatural alum Matt Cohen joins The Young and the Restless as detective investigating a major case

Matt Cohen is on the case in Genoa City.

The South of Nowhere and Supernatural alum has been cast as Detective Burrow on The Young and the Restless, Entertainment Weekly can exclusively reveal. He began taping last week and will first appear in the episode airing Thursday, Oct. 16.

It is said that Detective Burrow, who is a new character on Y&R, will be front and center investigating a major case featuring some of the soap’s key characters. Further details of the character are unknown at this time, but Genoa City has been in need of a new lead detective ever since the shocking death of Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) in July.

The well-respected lead detective was fatally shot by Carter (Vincent Stalba) during a confrontation in the Monday, July 28 episode, and the police force has been without a leader ever since.

Cohen is no stranger to the world of soap operas. He is well-known to daytime TV fans as Griffin Munro on General Hospital, a role which he played from 2016-2019. Fans of the CW series Supernatural will also recall Cohen playing a young John Winchester and the archangel Michael.

Additionally, Cohen is a Daytime Emmy Award winner for his work as a correspondent and co-host on Entertainment Tonight from 2019-2023. More recently, in January, Cohen directed and had a starring role in the feature film, Exes, alongside Briana Buckmaster, Mark Sheppard, Felicia Day, and Ricky Whittle.

He also produced and co-created the adult animated comedy Public Domain, which stars several fellow Supernatural alums. The first episode is available on the show’s YouTube page.

Cohen isn’t the only former General Hospital star to make the leap to Y&R this year. Last week, EW confirmed Roger Howarth, whose daytime TV credits include years-long stints on General Hospital, One Life to Live, and As the World Turns, is also joining the CBS sudser in a new role.

Howarth was most recently seen on General Hospital as Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt, the third character he’d played on the ABC soap since 2012, after playing Todd Manning and Franco Baldwin.

In a heartfelt note announcing his departure from GH in 2023, Howarth wrote, “Daytime fans are lovely and amazing and supportive and dedicated and I am deeply grateful to each sparkly one of them. I enjoyed my time at General Hospital and wish the cast and crew the best and continued success. It was a pleasure working with you all.”

In addition to Howarth and Cohen, it was also revealed last week that daytime TV veteran Tamara Braun would also be stepping into the world of The Young and the Restless, also as a new character named Sienna Bacall.
